Built for macOS 12 or later

Every camera. On your Mac.

The companion app that brings your cameras and video doorbells to the desktop you already use.

Designed for macOS.

Native through and through.

Built for every Mac.

Universal binary. Native on Apple Silicon and fully supported on Intel, with the same quiet menu-bar workflow on both.

Lives in your menu bar.

Quiet by default. Steps forward only when something on a feed needs you.

No cloud of our own.

Captured Motion never adds a video server in the middle. Local camera media stays local; vendor cameras keep using their official cloud path.

Get the highlights.

Designed for the way you actually use your Mac.

A companion that quietly minds your cameras while you work — and steps forward the moment something matters.

All your cameras

Every feed, in one window.

UniFi, Reolink, Tapo, ONVIF, RTSP, Apple Home, Aqara, Arlo, Ring and Eufy can sit together in one Mac window.

Doorbells

Answer the door from your desk.

For supported cameras and doorbells, motion and ring events can surface on the desktop you are already using.

Notifications

The moments that matter, surfaced.

Motion, people, vehicles, packages and known-face filters help with supported local recordings, while vendor and Apple Home paths stay clearly labelled.

Recording & review

Scrub back through the day, at the speed of thought.

Continuous, motion-only, or scheduled recording is available on supported local paths. Cloud and Apple Home cameras stay live-view and alerts first.

Privacy.

Yours. Not ours.

Captured Motion adds no camera cloud of its own. Local RTSP, ONVIF, UniFi Protect, Reolink and supported Tapo paths can record on your Mac. Apple Home recordings remain in Apple Home, and vendor-cloud cameras such as Ring, Arlo and Eufy keep using their vendor path.

No middleman.

Captured Motion does not upload camera frames, snapshots or clips to our servers. Supported local recordings write to storage on your Mac.

No Captured Motion account.

The Mac App Store build uses Apple purchases. Some camera brands still require their own sign-in because that is how their cameras work.

Honest about cloud cameras.

Ring, Arlo, Eufy and similar vendors still talk to their own cloud. We don’t add another hop or pretend those recordings become ours.

Setup.

Three steps to set it up.

Step 01

Install on your Mac.

Install from the Mac App Store. One launch. The Mac you already use is now the home for your cameras.

Step 02

Add your cameras and doorbells.

Use guided setup for local network cameras, UniFi Protect, vendor sign-ins, or Apple Home cameras that are already in your Home.

Step 03

Get on with your day.

It watches quietly. When something matters, it surfaces — right on the desktop you’re already looking at.

Try it.

Scrub back through the day.

Drag the playhead, jump between cameras. Eight hours, condensed.

Compared.

One window for every brand.

Most camera apps only speak to their own brand. Captured Motion speaks to them all — on the Mac you already use.

Questions.

Everything you might reasonably ask.

Is this a replacement for my doorbell’s app?

It’s a companion. Your doorbell or camera keeps working the way it always has — Captured Motion adds a Mac-native window so you can see, hear and respond from the desktop you’re already at.

What cameras and doorbells work with it?

Captured Motion supports UniFi Protect, Reolink, TP-Link Tapo, ONVIF, Generic RTSP, Apple Home cameras, Aqara, Arlo, Ring and Eufy paths. The compatibility guide explains which connections support live view, alerts and retained local recording.

Does my footage ever leave my home?

Captured Motion does not send camera media to our servers. Supported local paths record on your Mac; Apple Home recordings remain in Apple Home; cloud-first brands keep using their vendor cloud because that is how those cameras work.

Does my Mac need to be running?

Yes — the Mac is what does the watching. It can be the Mac you already use day-to-day, or a quiet Mac mini tucked away. Apple Silicon Macs sip power.

What about when I’m away from home?

The Mac app is designed for the Mac you use at home or a small always-on Mac. Remote access should be handled through the secure network setup you choose, such as your own VPN or the vendor’s official app.

Can I save and share clips?

Yes, for retained recordings on supported local camera paths. Cloud and Apple Home recordings stay in the vendor or Apple Home experience rather than being pulled into Captured Motion.
