Connect any camera by RTSP address

In the app, choose Generic RTSP on the first setup screen.
When a camera has no ONVIF, or you simply know its stream address, paste the full address and the app does the rest. Motion is worked out from the picture.

Before you connect

  1. Enable RTSP on the camera (usually under Network or Advanced in its app or web page) and note the port, normally 554.
  2. Build the address from the table below, with the camera’s username and password in it.
  3. Test it first in VLC (File → Open Network) — if VLC plays it, Captured Motion will.
  4. In Captured Motion pick Generic RTSP and paste the whole address.

If it does not connect

Plays in VLC but not hereCheck the password has no special characters that need escaping (@ becomes %40).
Ring, Arlo, Nest, BlinkThese do not publish a local stream. Ring and Arlo connect through their own sign-in in the app; Nest and Blink are not supported.
