Connect a TP-Link Tapo camera
In the app, choose TP-Link Tapo on the first setup screen.
Tapo cameras stream locally once you give them a camera account. That account is not your TP-Link ID; it exists only on the camera.
Before you connect
- Tapo app → tap the camera → the gear icon → Advanced Settings → Camera Account. Agree to the notice and set a username and password.
- Note the camera’s IP address under Device Settings → Device Info, and reserve it on your router.
- If you use Tapo Care and have an SD card fitted, remove the card: Tapo allows only two of cloud, card and local streaming at once.
- In Captured Motion pick TP-Link Tapo, enter the address and the camera-account username and password, and connect.
What the app asks for
| Host | The camera’s LAN IP address. |
|---|---|
| Username / password | The Camera Account you created, not your TP-Link ID. |
Stream address, if you need it
Only for the Generic RTSP route. The normal setup finds this itself.
rtsp://user:pass@CAMERA-IP:554/stream1 (lower quality: stream2)
If it does not connect
| Wrong password | You typed your TP-Link ID. Use the Camera Account from Advanced Settings. |
|---|---|
| Doorbell pops up for people, not the button | Tapo does not publish the press, so the app uses person detection instead. |
